Indian TV media inflaming the hatred

The TV media is playing a shameful role in inflaming the hazardous riot risks. Their strategy is openly against the Muslims. They never give any break news on the arrest of any armed terrorist or the smugglers whose connections are with the strong fascist parties but highlight the news of Muslim youths if they are caught even with a knife in their custody.

There is a competition between Pakistani and Indian media. Both blame each other of intrusion, planting the bombs, etc. It is a pity that in Pakistan there is no ban on Indian channels but in India, one can not see any Pakistani channel. As a result, there is only one side of the picture in front of the viewers. If it is called patriotism to see only Indian side and trust on whatever is said by the Government and the police, it is not. It is a deliberate attempt to blind the nation. It is damaging to the national integration as this kind of reporting serves a warning to every Hindu viewer that every Muslim living next door is an enemy and terrorist. Thus the TV and the authorities controlling the TV media are igniting the riots. As a result, the hatred between the two communities has risen in the last two to three decades since the fascist elements got hold of the Governments jobs, jobs in media and businesses.

A well known revered Hindu journalist from India described the Indian TV very correctly that:
We come to three conclusions on watching Indian TV news and serials:
1. Every third Indian is a lakhpati (millionaire),
2. Every third Indian, man or woman, has an illegitimate relationship and
3. There is no danger to India except from Muslims and Pakistan.

Except a few newsreaders, Muslim representation is hardly anywhere on the national TV, neither in any positive news nor in any debate or discussion. In the public life too, except a few constables, teachers, bus conductors, etc., there are no influential Muslims in any department. As a result, the trust or the confidence of the Muslims with respect to national unity and equality has been shaken. It is natural that such a deprived and disgruntled community will be compelled to adopt illegal ways for survival. The crime report of any newspaper proves that although the Muslim population is 15 to 20%, their names in the crime have a higher percentage.

Many deliberate attempts of the Indian TV media can be presented as an example whereby it invokes the hatred among Hindus and Muslims, like:

  • Special documentary film on Godhra incident is presented but never on Gujarat’s main riots.
  • Debates to ridicule Islam and Muslim are shown often like Imrana case, Sania Mirza’s dress, Fatwa selling Mufties, illegitimacy of life insurance, polygamy, Veil (Burqa), Vande Mataram, Deobandi-Barelwi rivalry, sighting of the moon, etc.
  • The arrests of the Muslim youths are projected every hour but the TV never reports when the police fails to prove the charges against them.
  • Anti-Islam and anti-Muslim statements and activities of the communal leaders are presented as a national news but the defending statements of the Muslim leaders are never broadcast.
  • They project those Muslims as the true representatives of Muslim community who do not deserve to be.
  • Sunskritised Hindi is being forced on the viewers. It is disliked by not only Muslims but many others as the Hindi is a language of a few North Indian states. It is not understandable by the majority of the Indians. The real language of the nation is that which is presented in TV serials, films, songs and albums.

Thus, the TV media has built-up the wall between the two communities. Naturally, the minority will react on being cornered, and as a result, the minority’s lives and properties will be at a greater risk.

It is true that the Indian TV media has become TRP centric and has lost its vision to play the role it used in earlier times. Call it the cut throat competition, but I feel that the majority of degradation in our society can be attributed to the fact that role of media too has lost  its way. I hope they see what they are doing to our society
