Hundreds of Muslims are martyred every year in the anti-Muslim riots, false encounters, deaths in custody, etc. As a reaction to the aftermath of Babri Masjid demolition, Gujarat riots, problems in Kashmir, etc. many Muslim youths were naturally bound to think of retaliation against atrocities.
The religious terrorism is on rise. Recent Bombay train blasts and subsequent Malegaon blasts indicate that tit-for-tat terrorism from both Hindus and Muslims is unending. The government’s failure to bring the actual criminals to justice is invoking revengeful feelings among the Muslims. The terrorist acts of the communal Hindu groups too are being credited in the Muslim’s accounts.
TV flashes news of the arrests of several Muslims said to be involved in planting bombs but police fails to prove. For the time being the police succeed in silencing the critics.
There are hundreds of cases where police failed to prove the allegations but ruined the lives of many youths. It is not strange if the police arrests only the Muslims on the charges of planting bombs in their own mosques and localities. The police has often done this.

There are many examples of police atrocities. The youths who had not seen a pistol in their lives were accused of carrying RDX (i.e., Royal Demolition explosive, widely used in military and industrial applications), pistols, etc. and suffered years in fighting the cases and, at last, acquitted. The police and army have uncovered many stories of fake encounters; the shooters were awarded with the medals but later found killers of innocent people like Younus Khaja. The Muslim youths are milking cows for the law enforcing authorities. Once they catch somebody as suspect, there is no way that they will release him without collecting huge sum from him even if he is innocent.

However, the number of people that dies in the blasts, riots, encounters, etc. is in hundreds every year. The number of houses, shops, factories, vendor stalls, etc. looted or put on fire is in thousands. The Muslims are deprived of their earnings overnight. The agony of the affected families is indescribable. The charity organisations appeal for funds but the amount collected as relief fund never exceeds 5% of the actual requirement. By the time people empty their pockets by giving charity, alms, zakat, etc. for one riot, another riot occurs in some other part of the country.

Secondly, it is not possible for the relief committees to reach every affected person. Often the donors complain that they do not find the right trustworthy source to convey the funds to the real needy.

The violence looks to be only option for some fascist groups. It is the curse of democracy that the police and administration have to abide by the majority’s will; therefore they are unable to put hand on the real terrorists.
As a result, as T N Seshan, Ex-Election Commissioner writes in his book “The degeneration of India” that :
“India will become ungovernable in the coming years” seems true.
The minorities must understand that they can not bring the majority to their faith through violence. Similarly, the majority must understand that no minority ever in human history could be suppressed by violence. The love and respect to each other’s beliefs and rights must prevail.
